Le hêtre d’Orient (Fagus orientalis Lipsky, 1898) dans la forêt communale de Riquewihr (France, Grand Est, Haut-Rhin)

Résumé  ̶  Le hêtre d’Orient (Fagus orientalis Lipsky, 1898) a été introduit dans les forêts alsaciennes au début du XXème siècle, alors que le territoire était annexé à l’Empire allemand. Le boisement situé à Riquewihr (Haut-Rhin), découvert par Émile ISSLER vers 1930, a été relocalisé en 2021. Cet article fait le point sur sa présence en Alsace et expose les critères qui permettent de l’identifier. En effet, en raison de sa potentielle meilleure adaptation face au changement climatique que Fagus sylvatica L., 1753, le hêtre d’Orient pourrait faire l’objet d’introductions dans les forêts d’Europe occidentale au cours du siècle à venir.

Abstract  ̶  The Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky, 1898) in the Riquewihr municipal forest (France, Grand Est, Haut-Rhin)
The oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky, 1898) was introduced into the alsacian forests at the beginning of the 20th century, when the territory was annexed to the German Empire. The afforestation located in Riquewihr (Haut-Rhin), discovered by Émile ISSLER around 1930, was relocated in 2021. This article is an opportunity to check its occurrence in Alsace and to describe the criteria to identify it. Indeed, due to its potential better adaptation to climate change than Fagus sylvatica L., the Oriental beech could be introduced into the forests of Western Europe during the coming century.
