Distribution et abondance des Picidés dans les forêts de la Hardt Nord (Haut-Rhin) - Relations avec le milieu forestier -

Résumé - En 2003, dans le cadre du programme Life Nature 99 « gestion des habitats xérothermiques de la Hardt Nord », un groupe d’ornithologues a conduit une étude visant à connaître la population de pics de la zone forestière Natura 2000 Hardt Nord, éclatée en plusieurs massifs forestiers. Le travail portant sur plus de 3 800 ha (sur les 6 000 que comporte la zone Natura 2000), plusieurs méthodes ont été combinées : quadrat, plan quadrillé statique, recherche de nids, prospection spécifique. La population de pics de la Hardt est riche de 7 espèces nicheuses, soit la totalité des espèces présentes en Alsace. Les espèces omniprésentes sont le Pic épeiche, le Pic vert, et le Torcol fourmilier. Une population d’environ 150 couples de Pic mar a été découverte mais celle-ci se concentre dans les parties forestières les plus fertiles de la zone Natura 2000, en forêt domaniale de la Harth. Le reste de la zone, bien que traité en taillis sous futaie est très peu fréquenté par l’espèce. La distribution du Pic vert est également particulière puisque, à l’inverse du Pic mar, il est peu abondant dans le massif forestier compact de la forêt domaniale mais bien représenté dans les chênaies sèches clairiérées. Par comparaison avec les résultats d’autres études, les pics sont relativement peu abondants dans les chênaies de la Hardt Nord.

Abstract - Distribution and abundance of Picidae in the forests of the Hardt Nord (Haut Rhin) - Relations with the forested ecosystem - In 2003, as part of the Nature 99 Life programme called « management of the xerothermic habitats in the Hardt Nord », a few ornithologists have led a study in order to know the state of the Natura 2000 area of the Hardt Nord. Taking the large inventory area into account (3.800 ha on 6.000 ha of the Natura 2000 area), several methods have been combined : mapping method, nests searching, static squared plans, conversion coefficient between density and listening spots, Wryneck prospection. Woodpecker’s population is relatively rich with seven nesting species, that is to say all the species present in Alsace. In each forest of this splitted Natura 2000 area, the omnipresent species are the great spotted Woodpecker and the Wryneck. About hundred and fifty couples population of Middle Spotted Woodpecker has been
discovered, but it is concentrated in the most fertile forest. The rest of the area, although it is cultivated as coppice with standards, is very low frequented by this species. Green Wood pecker distribution is also particular, since on the contrary of the Middle Spotted Woodpecker, it is not very abundant in the dense national forest but well represented in the gladed dry oak groves. Compared with other french censuses, Woodpeckers are relatively unabundant in the oak groves of the Hardt Nord.
