tissot 2025Extended abstract  -  In the Vosges Massif, Malaise traps have been set up since 2009 in the "tourbière de Machais" National Nature Reserve (La Bresse), initially to assess natural habitats using hoverflies (Syrphidae). These traps have subsequently yielded a significant number of insects preserved in alcohol. In 2020, Jocelyn CLAUDE and Alix GREUZAT BADRÉ will launch an extensive inventory programme to improve the natural science knowledge of this protected area. In this context, 913 dipteran specimens were analysed, identifying 120 species belonging to 18 dipteran families, including Chloropidae, Clusiidae, Diastatidae, Drosophilidae, Heleomyzidae, Lauxaniidae and others. The detailed study revealed significant findings, particularly within the Heleomyzidae, which comprises 26 species, with Suillia dawnae Withers, 1987 being particularly well represented and recently described. Eccoptomera longiseta Loew, 1862 and Eccoptomera obscura (Meigen, 1830) were found to be rare in France. Notable discoveries among the 18 Scathophagidae species include Conisternum obscurum (Fallén, 1819) (second French record), Cordilura rufimana (Meigen, 1826) (rare, previously known only from peat bogs in the Doubs and Jura), Cordilura ustulata (Zetterstedt, 1838) (recently added to the French fauna, third known locality) and Nanna armillata (Zetterstedt, 1846) (recently documented in various mountainous regions of France). Among the Tabanidae, Hybomitra lurida (Fallén, 1817) was particularly noteworthy, with its second known French site. This study underlines the importance of analysing the non-target fauna and significantly advances the dipterological knowledge of the Machais peat bog. However, the authors suggest complementing these results with additional targeted field collections and recommend the systematic application of non-target faunal analysis in future entomological trapping studies to further improve knowledge of dipteran biodiversity.
