Abstract – The study report by Moubayed (2023), entitled 'Chironomidae (Diptera) known from the Machais Nature Reserve (Vosges): inventory 2023', summarises the findings of three years of research on this group of aquatic and semi-aquatic dipteran larval bioindicators. This short note outlines the main results and conclusions of the study, as Chironomidae had never previously been investigated within the reserve. The unpublished technical report provides a comprehensive list of the 318 species of Chironomidae recorded in the Tourbière de Machais National Nature Reserve between 2020 and 2023 and discusses the results from biotypological and biogeographical perspectives. Of the recorded species, 146 are reported for the first time in the Vosges, nine are new to France and 15 are probably new to science. Moubayed’s work lays the groundwork for this newly acquired knowledge, which now requires substantial additional financial and technical support to analyse the collected material and conduct further surveys to achieve a comprehensive understanding of this exceptional natural site.
